Neighborhood Guide: Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn has long been the center of Dallas’ gay community (which is the BIGgest in TX and one of the largest in the US). The neighborhood bars and clubs draw big crowds each weekend, as does the annual Dallas Pride parade down Cedar Springs Road. But there are plenty of quieter streets of charming old duplexes, plus luxury living along Turtle Creek.

Oak Lawn/Cedar Springs is a 10 minute drive from downtown.

Dallas has one of the largest gay populations in the US and is home to the LGBT mega-church: The Cathedral of Hope. Gay Dallas is primarily centered around the Oak Lawn neighborhood with bars, restaurants and stores found throughout Cedar Springs Rd and Oak Lawn Avenue. The intersection of Throckmorton and Cedar Springs has been called the “crossroads” of Oak Lawn and is the home to a bunch of Gay and Lesbian Bars within walking distance.

D Magazine has put together a great site detailing the neighborhoods in Dallas. From local insights, new developments and best-of highlights, they’ve put together a rich resource for visitors and locals to explore the city. Their neighborhood guide to Oak Lawn restaurants, attractions, shopping, bars and clubs is here:
